Opening Reception of Bel Falleiros: DAWN–DUSK–DAWN

Bel Falleiros

Date:
May 30, 2026, 12:00 – 3:00pm

Location:
Recess

Weaving together body movement, clay instrument sounding and singing, the three artists will present a sequence of activities throughout the program. Theresa Bearfox will present both traditional Mohawk songs that honor our relationships with the natural world and her original compositions designed to heal, calm the spirit, and bring people together. Koyotzintli will work with Bel Falleiros and Bearfox to invite the public to move their bodies, and make sounds with simple clay instruments and their voices. The artists will create a nurturing atmosphere where participants can reset their bodies and recharge their spirits, while listening and sounding together.

Followed by light refreshments.

About Theresa Bearfox She began writing songs for Kontiwennenhawi (Carriers of the Words), a traditional women's singing group dedicated to preserving and uplifting the Mohawk language and culture. With the support of friends and family, she was able to incorporate the Mohawk language into her songs—something she believes is vital for the survival of her people’s identity. Her commitment to the language continues to this day. Around the year 2000, Theresa also began writing songs in English. She believes that music carries powerful messages and has the ability to heal, calm the spirit, and bring people together. Her songs reflect her love for her culture, her language, and her community—and they continue to inspire and uplift all who hear them.

About Koyotzintli An interdisciplinary artist from the Pacific coast of Manabí, Ecuador, she works across sound, performance, and sculpture. Her work involves hand-built clay instruments and ritual-based installations that explore material memory, cosmology, and embodied knowledge. Rooted in research on Indigenous epistemologies of the Americas, her practice approaches clay as both sonic vessel and archival medium.
