At Recess, we are breaking the rules of traditional nonprofit development and are building a community of Sustainers around a dynamic and holistic model of resource mobilization.

Resource Mobilization at Recess refers to the work of bringing together the resources that sustain our organization’s mission. This includes financial support, but also partnerships, collaborative and mutual aid networks, and relationships with people who believe in the work. Rather than focusing only on fundraising in the traditional sense, resource mobilization is about building a dynamic web of support around Recess.

Recess Sustainers are advocates, partners, and resource mobilizers who embody the shared commitment needed to imagine a more just future.

Alongside our donors, we are reimagining fundraising beyond individual transactions and toward a practice rooted in community, transparency, reciprocity, and shared responsibility for creative work. We understand moving money amongst our communities as an act of solidarity, working towards a more sustainable, imaginative, and just future. We’re coming together to shift resources within our communities toward an inclusive and just cultural ecosystem.
