Cheryl in the Wiggle Room

CHERYL will join artist Larry Bob Phillips during the last hours of Wiggle Room, a working installation and mural at Recess Activities, Inc. CHERYL is a Brooklyn-based video/performance collaborative that throws life-ending dance parties. For this collaboration, Wiggle Room will be reconfigured with symbolic pictorial elements depicting the four members of CHERYL. The resulting environment will invite CHERYL to interact with the murals, creating a performative live tableau. CHERYL will celebrate the closing of Phillips' work at Recess with a viewing of the installation from 7 to 9pm and an interactive performance/dance party from 9 to 11 pm.

Night of Laughs

Join us Thursday, July 21st for Night of Laughs, curated by Jeff Jensen.  This will be the second event in conjunction with Larry Bob Phillips' two month long project at Recess entitled Wiggle Room.  The evening's festivities will feature music by Soldiers of Fortune, Endless Boogie, The Jewish and DJ Mark Henning.  See you on the dance floor!

Larry Bob Phillips: Wiggle Room

On June 18, 2011, Larry Bob Phillips will begin work on his project Wiggle Room, as part of Recess’s signature program, Session. Session invites artists to use its storefront space as studio, exhibition venue and grounds for experimentation. Over the course of two months, Phillips will record four collaborative events, covering the walls inside 41 Grand Street with large-scale, and densely detailed drawings. Phillips will invite artists to join him in the space for temporary performances, and will draw these interventions. The artist’s anticipation and memory of the performance will inform the content of Phillips’ wall drawings. Visitors to Recess can engage in performances and witness their own integration into the ongoing drawing.
