january, 2017

10jan - 11All DayGuest Artist: Sam MoyerYou Never Know What Idea You Might Have

Event Details

Motoko Fukuyama has invited several guests artists to collaborate with her throughout You Never Know What Idea You Might Have. These artists will work alongside Fukuyama, both onsite at Recess and at Argo Electronics, during public hours. The artists will shop Argo’s inventory for intriguing materials while keeping in mind as their guiding motivation the store’s motto, “you never know what idea you might have.” After sourcing materials and concepts, the artists will return to Recess and use these as fodder for the creation of new artworks. Note: Moyer will be collaborating with Fukuyama for one additional day, on January 9, outside of Recess’s public hours. About the Artist: Known for her diverse body of work including paintings, structures, and sculptural objects, Moyer’s practice draws inspiration from architectural space and the materiality of utilitarian objects. Moyer combines found textures and objects in innovative ways—marble slabs, metal, and hand-dyed fabric—and manipulates them into beautifully abstract formal works that provoke a new, expanded, artistic vocabulary. Moyer has exhibited her work at The Drawing Center (New York, NY), The Bass Museum (Miami, FL), University of Albany Art Museum (Albany, NY), The Public Art Fund (New York, NY), White Flag Projects and The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (St. Louis, MO), LAND (Los Angeles, CA), Tensta konsthall (Stockholm, SW), Cleopatra’s Greenpoint (Brooklyn, NY), and Société (Berlin, DE). She has also participated in "Greater New York" and “Between Spaces” at PS1 Contemporary Art Center, Queens. Exhibitions of her work have also been shown at Galerie Rodolphe Janssen (Brussels, BE), Rachel Uffner Gallery (New York, NY), Venus over Manhattan (New York, NY), Autocenter (Berlin, GE), and Artists Space (New York, NY) among other venues. She received her BFA from the Corcoran College of Art and Design and her MFA from Yale. She lives and works in Brooklyn
